Fit: true to size. We did not size down on this style. Michele is an apple shaped size 20 wearing her typical 20.
Between sizes: apple shapes (tummy heavy) preferred their larger size. Pears (smaller waist, fuller hip/booty) could go either way depending if you prefer a firm or soft belly hold.
